Beautiful cabin that reminded us of Lake Wanika in New Zealand. The attention to detail (as Virgos do) was well appreciated. You made this feel like home.

This is a return trip for us. No matter how many times we visit Bruny Island each trip encourages us to keep returning. It was lovely to have the fire set ready to throw a match to light it up when we arrived late. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic views without leaving the cabin. We can’t wait for the next visit.

Many thanks, mahalo from Hobart!!

This must be the best spot on the island, so quiet, so tranquil. What a place to relax! The cabin is very comfortable and well equipped. We loved the bird books, yours in particular. We will take with us a special memory of sitting on the deck with a glass of wine watching the spectacular sunset.

Absolutely brilliant stay!! The accommodation is first class, the views are amazing and the wildlife incredible. I stayed here as part of a bird watching tour I was running and from the front verandah we saw swift parrots, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, dusky robins, scarlet robins, superb fairy-wrens, sooty oyster catchers and more.

Our days have been spent enjoying the lovely views, bird watching, reading and just dozing. A very peaceful sojourn. The fire was lovely on a windy, drizzly day – something houses these days are missing. Hope to return to this gem again one day.

Well! What a lovely three nights we have spent here. Such a beautiful island with different vistas around every corner and over each hill. We loved walking on different beaches and on the sheep wash creek trail and up to the lighthouse. Really enjoyed seeing an albatross and dolphins and seals on the boat ride, then to return to this delightful cabin…what could be better? We enjoyed all the birds visiting for a bath and the artwork in the cabin.

From the pictures we knew the cabin would be a nice retreat for a few days; but we didn’t realise just how perfect it would be!
After a day of exploring, lungs full of fresh sea air, bellies full of fresh seafood, we put our feet up, fire cracking, glass of wine in one hand, book in other and THAT view! Like we’d sipped a sleeping draft our eyes grew heavy, our breathing slowed, books fell flat against our chests as if embracing us…full relaxation was had!

Brilliant location and view. The photos don’t do it justice (unless thats the intention, as it exceeds all expectations when you arrive). The cabin has everything you could need/want to relax and get ready for your adventures around Bruny. Beds were super comfy, great pressure and hot water in the shower. As per other reviews the Sourdough, fresh eggs and Jams are a special extra.. Thank you Kim.

November 2016 (airbnb)

We were welcomed to exactly what the listing said. We had no problem communicating with Kim so we knew exactly what to do when we arrived and it all went without any problems. Lots of space for two couples to get along just fine. We were treated to a lovely sourdough loaf and homemade jams – a warm welcoming touch. A beautiful setting with great views of the water beyond. Lots of information about the area was available in a handy binder along with emergency numbers etc. There was a wide variety of books to read and movies to watch. Another helpful thing was a book about the local birds so we were able to identify some of them. We’d highly recommend Abel’s Cabin.

This is a lovely cosy cottage overlooking the water on the southern part of Bruny Island. Wood burning stove , firewood in the woodbox, a well equipped kitchen lovely new bathroom and homebaked bread. Kim was very helpful and easy to communicate with, and checked in on us to make sure we were fine as he had unexpectedly been called way from the island and was unable to welcome personally when we arrived. Great relaxing” home away from home ” on Bruny Island.

Abel’s Cabin on Bruny Island is a wonderful place to stay. When we arrived the cabin was warm and welcoming. The cabin has 2 heaters a heat pump (reverse cycle A/C) and a wood heater which was set ready to light with an abundant amount of dry fire wood in the porch. The cabin was very comfortable and warm, the bed cozy and the location looking across to Adamson’s Peak in the distance just fabulous. Well recommended! Oh there was breakfast items supplied but we were told about the big breakfast at the local general store, $15 and was awesome!

Our stay was amazing, the cabin exceeded expectations. So well equipped and clean. Loved the fireplace in family room, so cozy! If we ever went back to Bruny, we would definitely stay here!!!! Just sorry we missed meeting Kim. Hiked fluted cape track and saw wallabies…. a first for us ( from the states). Beautiful hike. Went to winery, did cheese tasting, and oyster house… So good. Thanks for an awesome place to stay and the treats you left for us!!!

I have never stayed at a better AirBnB. I like the instant booking, and Kim answered messages quickly. I cannot rave enough about this property. The cabin is a surprisingly nice blend of cozy and chic. It is larger than it looks in the photos, with two bedrooms, a renovated bathroom, the open-concept kitchen/sitting room and a separate room with a kitchen table and couches/TV. The kitchen was well stocked (pans, pots, cheese grater etc, nice wine glasses, french presses). We were surprised, and happy to find coffee, tea, sugar, milk, eggs, bacon plus a cupboard of left overs from past guests. Not to mention the delicious fresh, homemade sourdough loaf that awaited us. Everything else we wanted we bought at the store in Adventure Bay (and it really wasn’t that much more expensive than the mainland). The wood stove was really nice in the evenings and we were delighted to find Kim had set up the first fire for us – fire starter included. It went up beautifully and kept us warm (in May). We are birder watchers, and were happy to see at least 17 species in the yard. Additionally, Kim graciously offered to orient us to a few places we could see some exciting endemic species. Note: There is no wifi, and my Queensland Vodophone had zero reception at the cabin (and limited elsewhere). For me – this forced a ‘here and now’ approach to the weekend. Just what I’d needed!

Thank you for a great stay; we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing view, the love you have put into your beautiful garden and the hospitality that you’ve shown. We have felt so warm and welcome here. The apples in the back garden were delicious! Our trip here has been fantastic and it certainly makes such a difference coming back to a beautiful home. Will definitely be recommending Abel’s Cabin to our friends and family back home in Sydney.

We were delighted to be welcomed by two scarlet robins on our arrival and we quickly became on first name terms with the dominant one, “Scarly”.
The sourdough loaf, breakfast provisions and salad vegies were also a sign of welc0me, and much appreciated.
We’ve enjoyed our many walks in South Bruny and our encounters with a variety of birds we had never seen before.
We look forward to returning, maybe in October, when we can expect more flowers in the coastal heathland.
Many thanks Kim and Victoria for a wonderful stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights and just didn’t want to leave! We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived, with a check in message from Kim. The views from the home are breathtaking, a real treat to wake up to and sit on the deck with a wine watching sunset. It was a great location, a 10min walk to the winery and easily accessible to attractions on the island. With fresh home made hot cross buns left for us by Kim, added to the how wonderful a stay it was. Highly recommend this place!!! Thank you Kim!

March 2016

We had a lovely stay at Abel’s cabin. Such beautiful surroundings, and a very comfortable cabin. Kim was very welcoming, and left us some fresh sourdough on arrival, which was delicious! There was also plenty of books and games to keep us occupied when we weren’t out and about exploring the island. We particularly enjoyed Kim’s book of birds that he has photographed around the island, and watching the sunset from through the lounge room window. We would definitely recommend this place and will hopefully come back.

This is a perfect spot: the photos show it just as it is. The kitchen was really well equipped and made catering for the four of us dead easy. We had lovely weather, but clearly it would be cosy with both a wood heater and heat pump (reverse cycle) in winter too. Kim is great and so helpful, so all in all we hope to come back another time. Thank you Kim and Victoria.

We loved the cabin – it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay at the beach. Our kids enjoyed playing in the sand and shallow water out front and the location was great for exploring Bruny Island(s) – Jetty Beach, the lighthouse, and standing amongst the Shearwaters flying in after dark at the neck were some highlights – not to mention the Forty-spotted Pardalote! Thank you Kim for the hospitality – the fresh bread and garden vegetables were a very nice bonus.

Kim kept us up to date with our booking, and even pointed us to some cool stuff to do the say before. He warned us about the poor condition of the road (which was fixed during our stay) and then when a bushfire broke out on the Island he kept us informed. Great experience.

Kim came to check to check we were okay when we first arrived, but we were otherwise left to our own devices. It was reassuring to know that he was just down the road should we need anything. Provisions for our first breakfast were provided, including a lovely homemade sourdough loaf – a very welcoming touch. The house was beautifully located, and extremely well maintained, and well equipped. We could not have asked for more. Thank you Kim for a wonderful stay in Abel’s Cabin.

Dusk and many shades of grey fill the sky, the distant hills and the rippling waters of the bay. Then suddenly the sky is streaked with red and gold, the hills are tipped with fire and the bay is a flickering jewel. The fleeting moment etched in the vision of the mind, then it is gone, darkness falls and we sit quiet in the silence of the night.
Abel’s Cabin is a haven of peace after a busy day around Bruny. We loved not only the building, a home away from home, the location, such a marvellous panorama, but also your wonderful hospitality. We leave all too soon.

The host made us feel welcome and sent us a text to make sure everything was in order. The home sour dough bread was delicious and the milk and eggs in the fridge was a nice surprise. The cottage was comfortable and homely with 2 separate living areas with million dollar views. It was peaceful stay with only the chirping sounds of little birds. The bathroom was also modern and spacious. We liked looking at the book of photos of birds taken in the area.

Abel’s Cabin was an excellent retreat on a beautiful tranquil part of the island. The hosts were wonderfully welcoming. Particularly exciting to have beautiful home made bread provided along with treats from the vegie patch ! I would thoroughly recommend a stay here . Unable to find fault.

January 9-11, 2016

We cannot speak highly enough of Abel’s Cabin: this is a place where time stands still. The quintessential place to relax and enjoy the water views while being provided with every possible way to stay comfortable. The cabin was spotlessly clean and beautifully laid out with comfortable lounges, two separate living spaces and a fully equipped kitchen. The lovely bathroom looked brand new and had been tastefully finished with quality towels and great lighting. A comprehensive DVD collection and heaps of reading material was very much appreciated, as was the loaf of sourdough bread, milk, eggs and bacon provided for our breakfast. We picked beans from the garden to complement our evening meal and the flowers in the garden were very beautiful. Feels like home… My only ‘complaint’ is that the Airbnb standard has now been set so high by Abel’s Cabin that consequent bookings at other places seem lacking. Attention to detail and a generous host are certainly important. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Ables Cabin is an absolute Gem, situated in one of the best locations on Bruny Island. The photos can’t do it justice. The house is bigger than it looks, spotlessly clean, with everything you need to feel right at home, especially those comfy lounges while enjoying the ‘Million Dollar’ view. Hosts Kim & Victoria are the nicest people; and Kim is a fount of knowledge regarding what to see & do on the Island, and they even provided freshly baked Sourdough Bread, as well as bacon & eggs in the fridge for our first breakfast. Ables Cabin really is the ideal spot for a ‘Getaway’, the beach is right in front of the house, as well as plenty of other bays & beaches nearby to explore, and if you are a Fisherman or a Boatie, you have arrived in Heaven. Christmas Eve, sitting on the deck watching a stunning sunset across the bay behind the far distant mountains, a glass of fine Tasmanian wine, believe me, it does not get any better!! Many Many thanks Kim & Victoria for a very memorable Christmas, in your little corner of paradise, we can’t recommend Ables Cabin highly enough…having ‘Discovered’ you, we can’t wait to return.

What a fantastic little ‘getaway’. Thank you for looking after us. Amazing bread and breakfast a lovely surprise. We will be back to enjoy that fabulous view real soon.
Our son especially enjoyed the nightly visit from a friendly puppy who enjoyed a pat and a leftover sausage!

We loved this spot! This was so perfect for our two little ones (2 and 4) with ample lawn space and gardens to explore. What a view! We all enjoyed the beach in front of Abel’s Cabin. Kim went out of his way to look after us and make sure we had everything we needed. We loved the fire, the view, the fresh provisions, the lawn, the beach, the peace and quiet and getting away from it all. We’ll be back.

Thank you for your attention to detail in looking after us at your lovely Cabin. We have been so comfortable and relaxed here. What a view! It’s been perfect for the kids. They love the gardens and running circles around the house and pottering around the beach. We all love it here!

Thank you so much for allowing us to extend our stay. Did so much, saw so much in such a short time.
Highlights: Meeting you both, our stay in Abel’s Cabin, Huon Valley mushrooms at Bruny Island Premium Wines. Meals at Hotel Bruny. The visit to Art at the Point (Dennes Pt, north Bruny) was a wonderful, unexpected surprise for me.
Look forward to coming back for longer.

Stunning views, delicious food and wine, such a welcoming host . . .We have thoroughly enjoyed Bruny. Abel’s Cabin is so comfortable. We loved Kim’s bread, great selection of books, well equipped kitchen. The shoreline below gave us plenty to explore and photograph, especially the cliff faces. Rambling, reading, relaxing; a great holiday.
PS: The sea eagle was a highlight!

A wonderful surprise. Not just a place to stay but felt better than home. Warm, well appointed and relaxing. Great art around the place, the most comfortable couches, snug beds and a very efficient wood heater. Kim kept the wood box filled each day. A great extra were the sea eagles crossing the bay in fact a profusion of bird life (robins, blue wrens, silver eyes etc etc). it was just so relaxing. Oh and Kim’s bread was wonderful and toasted beautifully. We used fresh herbs in our cooking. The newly planted veges are sprouting and should be ready for a new visitor within weeks.
